Monday: Dr. Napoleon Wells

Dr. Napoleon Wells is a clinical psychologist.

Originally from the Bronx, Monday’s plenary speaker, having received his training and Ph.D. from Fordham University, began his professional career as an post-traumatic stress disorder treatment specialist with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Wells is now a faculty member with the Department of Social Sciences at Claflin University.

Dr. Wells has worked extensively in the areas of emotional wellness, graduate school preparation, anxiety/stress management, and in psychologically conceptualizing and combating racism. He performed his TEDx Talk, The Cure for Racism in 2015 and has worked  with various McNair Scholars Programs, AEEE, Upward Bound programs and HipHopEd.

Ramona Smith is a member of Toastmasters International.

An international award-winning public speaker and the 2018 World Champion of Public Speaking, she is a recent graduate of Baldwin Wallace University with a major in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. She is a highly skilled public speaker with an interest in training and teaching.

Remembering Henry Durand, PhD

The Tri-State Consortium of Opportunity Programs organization was saddened to learn of the passing of Henry James Durand, Jr. Ph.D., on December 27, 2018. A member of the Tri-State Consortium for years, he dedicated his career to higher education. Read the full obituary at The Buffalo News.

The family will receive friends in Buffalo on Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 10 am-noon at First Shiloh Baptist Church, 15 Pine St., where a Celebration of Life will immediately follow. Rev. Jonathan R. Staples officiating. The family will also receive friends Thursday, January 10, 2019, 1-3 pm at the Spring Grove Funeral Home, 4521 Spring Grove Ave., Cincinnati, OH, where a Celebration of Life will be conducted at 3 pm at the Entombment Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that Dr. Durand’s life and legacy be remembered by supporting the Drs. Henry J. and Bonita R. Durand Scholarship Fund, c/o University at Buffalo, Office of University Advancement, 503 Capen Ave., Buffalo, NY 14260-1660,
