The University at Albany SUNY seeks an inspiring leader to provide administrative and programmatic leadership for student success in the Educational Opportunities Program (EOP). The Program provides admission and support for economically and educationally disadvantaged students who are residents of New York State and wish to enroll in one of UAlbany’s many undergraduate degree programs. The ultimate goal of EOP is to make higher education possible for students who lack the normal credentials for college admission, but who have the potential and motivation for academic success. While students and families are expected to assist themselves financially as much as possible, the university recognizes that most students admitted to EOP require substantial support from grants, scholarships, loans, and jobs. The Program provides support services designed to help students who need assistance in academic, financial, social, and personal matters.
The Director is responsible for all aspects of the Program’s general operations, programming, fundraising, and involvement in University activities and initiatives. S/he will be committed to integrating the Program into the University’s overall educational mission and supporting the Program’s contribution to the strategic plan. The Director is responsible for day-to-day operations and for developing and managing the Program’s annual budget. The EOP annual budget sums to $3.6 million for staff salaries, direct aid, tutoring, summer orientation, and special projects.
The Director supervises a staff of 17 full and part-time employees (16.4 FTE), including seven counselors, eight instructors, an office manager, and a part-time fiscal officer. Graduate and undergraduate student assistants are also involved as study group facilitators, tutors, and program aides. This position reports to the Senior Vice Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.
