Saint Xavier University is searching for an inaugural Chief Diversity Officer (CDO). Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Xavier holds the distinctions of being Chicago’s oldest Catholic university as well as the first Mercy institution of higher learning in the world, and it was designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) in 2014.
The position of CDO affords an exceptional opportunity to lead an institution through significant change in its history. Reporting to the President, the CDO will lead and champion the development, implementation, coordination, and assessment of proactive diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. This work will be accomplished in support of SXU’s strategic plan to create a learning community in which all have an opportunity to succeed. The CDO will be a visible and connected leader who actively engages students, faculty and staff to further behaviors, attitudes and policies that support equity and inclusion, and foster a sense of belonging. The CDO will collaborate with University stakeholders to assess potential barriers and develop strategies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce and assess the need for and recommend training initiatives designed to increase inclusivity and cultural competencies.
